Lake Bled is one of Slovenia's greatest attractions, and for good reason! The shimmering emerald water makes for the perfect place to cool off during the stifling summer months, whilst the backdrop of mountains create a stunning scene to be admired from all angles of the lake. However, the only way to truly take in the surroundings is by visiting Ojstrica, which is, in our opinion, the best viewpoint in Lake Bled.
The Best Viewpoint in Lake Bled
Boasting views such as this, Ojstrica, is the best place to see Lake Bled in all its might.
How to get to Ojstrica
First things first, if you want to go to Ojstrica, whatever you do, don't follow the directions on Google Maps! They ended up leading us straight into a dead end in the middle of a camp site. 'Hey, wrong way!' bellowed one of the workers before pointing us in the right direction.
So, here's how to get to Ojstrica! Head for 'Camping Bled' along the main road/path that winds around the lake. The camp is situated in the east of the lake and is extremely hard to miss due to the flock of people sunbathing in front of the entrance. Look out for this sign and you will know you're in the right place.
Continue walking just past the sign and in the shrubbery of the woods you will notice a sign saying 'Ojstrica' and 'Osojnica'. Follow the sign through the small hole in the forest and work your way up the dirt path.
The path to Ojstrica isn't too challenging, however it can be energy draining so be sure to carry water. Furthermore, the terrain gets extremely muddy in the rain and slippy in the sun, therefore trainers are advised to be worn during all times of the year. After approximately 15 minutes of your uphill climb, the path will split into two. The trail you need to follow is on the right and takes you up a steep rock face - the hike is a little more difficult from here. After 5 minutes of working your way up the rocky path you will be greeted with this breathtaking view...
Definitely the best viewpoint in Lake Bled, right!?
What to do after visiting Ojstrica
On your descent you may choose to visit Mala Osojnica, the viewpoint that the other trail leads to. Audrey and I decided to head back down to cool off in the refreshing waters of the lake. Yet another positive of Ojstrica is that it is directly above the best areas to swim in Lake Bled, so you don't have to walk far to find a place to relax and jump in.
